New Cuban Trinidads Hit Global Market

New Cuban Trinidads Hit Global Market

Two new Trinidad cigars from  Habanos S.A. have arrived in cigar shops all over the world. First announced earlier this year at the Habanos Festival, the Trinidad Topes and Trinidad Media Luna are now on sale. The Topes, which measures 4 7/8 inches long by 56 ring gauge, might look familiar, as the size first appeared as a 2016 Edición Limitada. Now it’s part of the regular-production lineup of Trinidad. The Media Luna is a smaller smoke, which measures 4 1/2 by 50. Both cigars have the pigtail cap—a hallmark of the Trinidad brand—and each cigar comes in boxes of 12.

A third new size, the Esmerelda (5 3/4 by 53) has yet to appear in stores. There’s no word from Habanos as to when it’s scheduled to ship, but retailers don’t expect to see it before the new year. Corporate Cigar Australia will be the first to have all 3 cigars by Christmas this year.

The New Partagás Maduro No.1

MONTECRISTO 80 Aniversario. Special Commemorative Edition

Montecristo, one of Habanos S.A.’s most recognized brands around the world, has decided to present smokers with a special and one-of-a-kind vitola to mark its 80th anniversary. Montecristo 80 Aniversario was specially selected by Habanos S.A. to commemorate the foundation of this larger-than-life brand back in 1935.

The 20 habanos in this exclusive edition have been “completely hand-rolled with long filler”, following a selection of exquisite filler, binder and wrapper leaves from the finest tobacco plantations of Vuelta Abajo* (D.O.P.). The vitola and the blend, especially strong, have been designed for smokers who prefer intense tastes.

The Montecristo 80 Aniversario is unique, with special sizes unseen in any other product within the Habanos’ regular vitola portfolio, since it’s been specially devised to lure smokers who prefer thick ring-gauge habanos of exquisite, well-balanced and intense blend. This commemorative edition comes in an exclusively designed box made with Cuba’s finest softwood, featuring a fancy brown-glazed finish and all the edges beautifully beveled.

The box lid sports the Montecristo round seal on top, inspired in the band design that stands out for its bright gilt shades. This edition’s habanos also feature an exclusive and innovative presentation. For this occasion, the brand’s band is fully finished in gold, coupled with a second band that proudly depicts the edition’s motif: 80 Aniversario.

Montecristo is the best known and perhaps the most coveted habano brand, penciled in by many as the taste benchmark among all Cuban cigars. It was named after the character in “The Count of Montecristo” novel penned by Alejandro Dumas, a highly acclaimed literary work among cigar rollers at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, where the brand was founded in 1935. Its exquisite blend is exclusively made with leaves hailing from Vuelta Abajo, the land of the world’s best tobacco.

Its two blends –the original, featuring a mild-to-strong taste, and the mild strength of the Open line- deliver a distinct aroma that continues to captivate both the most seasoned smokers and those who are cutting their teeth in the realm of habanos.

Trinidad – The Golden Wedding

Only since 1998, it became available to smokers from all over the world, but in limited quantities, and since then it has continued to captivate demanding enthusiasts of the Habano realm.

Founded in 1969, Trinidad shows off that 50 years under its “band” is far from being a moment of nostalgia, but rather a time for resurgence and a chance to celebrate the addition of two new vitolas: Esmeralda (ring gauge 53 x 145 mm long), Media Luna (ring gauge 50 x 115 mm long) and Topes (ring gauge 56 x 125 mm long).

The first two are newcomers in the regular portfolio of Habanos; while the latter was presented as part of the 2016 Limited Edition with good acclaim and with the addition of ring gauge 56 for the first time in the brand’s portfolio. With Trinidad’s medium strength and great aroma, these vitolas are distinguished for having been totally made by hand with long filler, following a careful selection of wrapper, filler and binder leaves from the best tobacco plantations of Vuelta Abajo* of the Pinar del Río* region in Cuba*.

The name of the brand is a tribute to the town of Santa Trinidad (Holy Trinity), whose origin dates back to the 16th century on the island nation’s south coast, which was declared World Heritage by UNESCO. Although still in its early going as compared to other Habano brands, Trinidad expanded its vitola stock back in 2003 with the release of Reyes, Coloniales and Robusto Extra. A much modern image was also introduced, coinciding with the extraordinary quality of its Habanos. And in 2014, the new Vigia vitola (ring gauge 54 x 110 mm long), jumped on the bandwagon.

Presented now in the classic Semi Boite Nature (SBN) varnished box, each with 12 units, Esmeralda Trinity, Media Luna and Topes step onto the limelight of the 21st Habano Festival to give a sophisticated option to those who like thick ring-gauge and short-burning cigars to puff on. Let’s light up one of these Habanos and to celebrate the vitality of its first half a century of existence. * DOP (Protected Appellation of Origin) Trinidad Esmeralda:
